WALDORF - IRIDIUM CORE - Synthesizer

With the IRIDIUM Core, Waldorf expands the Iridium family with the smallest member, which is nevertheless equal to the other models in most aspects. As the Iridium and Quantum share a common OS platform, many functions are identical and the patches (except those using the Quantum's analog filters) are fully compatible. The IRIDIUM Core can do everything its bigger brothers can, but it takes up less space and control is primarily focused on the touchscreen. The IRIDIUM Core's twelve voices are split across two parts, so two sounds can be played simultaneously. They can be played in polyphony, mono, Legato or Unisono. More than 1700 patches are already pre-programmed ex works, the total patch memory is sufficient for more than 7000 sounds. Thanks to the category filter and the favorites list, you can quickly achieve your goal despite the large number of sounds.

Sound synthesis and generation
At the heart of the IRIDIUM Core are its three digital oscillators, each with five selectable synthesis modes:

Wavetable: Waldorf style with the latest Nave technology, including speech synthesis and generation of Wavetables from external audio sources.
Waveform: Waveform with up to 8 simultaneous waveforms per oscillator in detuned mode or tuning mode with hard sync, distortion, PWM as well as pitchable noise.
Particle: Granular sampler with multi-sampling and traditional sampling mode
Resonator: exciter with multi-sampling and filter bank modeling
Kernel: up to 6 sub-oscillators that can be connected via FM to Audiorate; for futuristic experimental sounds and FM-like sounds.
Oscillators alone can do incredible things and offer a huge range of different sounds. The number of parameters of an oscillator is already enormous, and they can also be modulated infinitely. The following mixer controls the volume and saturation of the sound generators. This is followed by two excellent multi-mode digital filters, which contain 12/24dB LP/BP/HP combinations as well as filter models from Nave, Largo, PPG, Quantum and State Variable. Additionally, the filter routing can be switched between series and parallel, starting with the oscillators! The already impressive sound palette is complemented in a remarkable way by the Digital Former. It complements sound generation with a bit crusher, distortion, comb filter and ring modulator. The signal path is complemented by five simultaneously usable effect slots per layer. Decide for yourself whether delay, reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser, EQ or compressor appear thanks to the free routing in the effect block.

Modulation
With six loopable envelopes and LFOs as well as the Complex Modulator, which is a mix of two LFOs with waveforms that you can draw yourself (!) and an envelope, you have enough options in addition to the signal sources. standard modulation options such as ModWheel, Velocity or Aftertouch, you have enough options at your fingertips to fill the 40-input modulation matrix and thus breathe life into the sound in almost any place.

Access
The high-resolution touch screen provides easy access to all settings and visually executes all control panel movements. With impressive precision, it displays changes in the sound of different sections of the synthesis process in real time. The modulation matrix allows you to assign the Display address to parameters and act as an X/Y controller. The four small buttons below the screen are freely assignable, and six other keys can be configured as macro keys.

Sequencer & Co.
The eight backlit pads allow you to play individual notes or chords. The polyphonic step sequencer has a capacity of 64 steps and even records Parameterlocks. Typical of Waldorf, an arpeggiator is also integrated, which is one of the most complete of its kind. The rich selection of different scales, patterns and reading directions is a valuable aid for composition.

Connectors
On the rear panel you will find all the connectors of the IRIDIUM Core. Stereo inputs and outputs, a separately adjustable headphone jack, two inputs with a small jack for control voltages, an analog clock input and output as well as MIDI inputs and outputs connected with the included MIDI-TRS adapters . The USB port is intended for data exchange with the computer and MIDI in both directions. The USB host port allows you to connect a MIDI-USB controller or keyboard. A MicroSD card slot completes the rear panel.
