THORENS - TD 124 DD - Direct drive turntable - Black finish

The revival of a timeless Hi-Fi classic
The Thorens brand is renowned for its high-quality turntables, and its TD 124 is considered a brand classic. First released in 1957, this turntable quickly gained popularity with audiophiles and broadcast studios around the world. Today, many enthusiasts restore old models of the TD 124 piece by piece to give them a second life.
With the brand new TD 124 DD, Thorens continues this tradition while adding innovative technologies. This turntable features a height-adjustable aluminum chassis that rests on rubber-absorbing feet designed to effectively dampen vibrations. It is equipped with a high-precision direct drive system, which provides stable playback and excellent rotational speed control.
The Thorens TD 124 DD turntable is also compatible with 33 rpm and 45 rpm discs and is equipped with a selector which makes it easy to change the speed of rotation. Thorens paid attention to every detail when developing this turntable to ensure it meets the highest performance aspirations.

A high-precision “J” tonearm
The Thorens TD 124 DD turntable features a model-exclusive TP 124 "J" tonearm, 232.8mm long and featuring a ruby bearing for optimal anti-skating precision . The tonearm can be fine-tuned to ensure the best operating conditions for the mounted cartridge. Additionally, a slightly heavier additional counterweight is provided to accommodate a large selection of phono cartridges.
The TP 124 tonearm is paired with a patented electric tonearm lift, which facilitates smooth stylus placement and removal. Although this mechanism can be long and noisy, it offers an added benefit for precise stylus placement. The anti-skate is managed by a weight with a ruby bearing for increased precision. Its installation can be done manually with patience and precision.

Independent power supply for a high-fidelity audio experience
The Thorens TD 124 DD is equipped with an external TPN 124 power supply, designed to minimize electrical interference and ensure clean current. This separate power supply is a crucial element to guarantee stable operation of the turntable and to obtain a clear and detailed listening with an increased dynamic margin. Thorens chose this design to limit electrical and mechanical interference, which can negatively impact the sound quality of high-end turntables.

Adjustable frame for optimal reading
The Thorens TD 124 DD turntable has a carefully designed chassis to effectively eliminate vibrations and ensure optimal operation. Since the cell of a turntable functions as a microphone, vibrations and resonances are amplified, creating distortion and background noise that interfere with listening. The chassis consists of a heavy lower block mounted on four damping feet and a second part mounted on four height-adjustable damping feet, fitted with rubber balls for optimum vibration damping. The upper part contains the playback speed selector, the tonearm, a selector acting as a lever for the tonearm and an integrated spirit level. To ensure optimal playback conditions, it is essential that the turntable is perfectly horizontal. The spirit level and the adjustable feet therefore make it easy to adjust this parameter.

Connect your turntable to your favorite Hi-Fi system
The Thorens TD 124 DD is equipped with several types of connectors, including RCA phono outputs, an XLR balanced output and a USB digital output. The XLR output is of particular interest to audiophiles as it provides better audio signal isolation and more stable transmission, reducing electromagnetic interference. However, it can only be used with an XLR compatible preamplifier.
